Elderly care

Twenty-plus facilities, 200 staff, and a digital transformation programme that had stopped short of the last mile — until the care workers started building it themselves.

The situation

They had tried the DX tools. All of them stopped at the same place.

The group runs more than twenty care facilities with 200 staff. Care planning, admission assessment, resident and staff records, transport scheduling — all of it regulated, all of it specific to how this group actually works, and none of it quite matching what any vendor sells.

The group had worked through a series of digital transformation tools. Each one covered the general case and left the last mile — the part that is particular to your facilities, your rota, your residents — undone.

They went live in April 2026 and had their first application in production the same day.

Who built it

Six care-facility managers

Qualified care workers and physiotherapists. People who hold a caseload, not a computer science degree — and who already knew exactly which part of the assessment process was broken.

Six people committing to one repository. 220 pull requests merged, every one reviewed and staged — four months of a care company running an actual engineering process, without an engineer.

What they built

The systems that carry the caseload.

“Every DX tool we tried stopped short of the last mile. VCP is the first that made in-house development possible — led by our own managers and frontline staff. They are passionate about it.”

Has your DX programme stopped at the last mile?

That gap is usually not a tooling problem. It is that nobody in the building can close it.
